COVID 19 and CMEA Event Cancellations

Important Message from the President of CMEA:
We have been carefully monitoring the situation concerning the COVID-19 outbreak in regards to our upcoming events. We understand and acknowledge the concern surrounding the COVID-19 virus outbreak and are taking our direction regarding festivals and large gatherings from government officials and medical professionals.
As of Tuesday, March 10th, 2020, Governor Lamont issued a public health and civil preparedness emergency and is urging all gatherings larger than 100 be evaluated. In addition, numerous schools have already made restrictions to events both in and out of district, and closures are beginning to occur throughout Connecticut.
Therefore, the difficult decision has been made to cancel all upcoming festivals for the remainder of the 2020 school year.
This includes:
The Northern Region Middle School Festival
The Western Region Middle School Festival
The CMEA All State Festival
The Elementary Honor Ensembles, and the
CMEA In-Service Conference.
PLEASE NOTE:
1. All fees paid to CMEA for participation in any of the above events will be returned. Please allow 6 weeks to receive these. We thank you in advance for your patience.
2. Student eligibility will not be affected for any of the 2020-2021 auditions or festivals at the region, state, division, or national level.
3. Procedure for the return of festival music to CMEA and further details regarding returning of fees will be sent to our participating CMEA member teachers by the end of the day 3/11
This decision was not an easy one, but was made with the health and safety of our members, students, and all other involved personnel in mind.
We thank you for your understanding and for your dedication to and support of Music Education in the State of Connecticut.
Sincerely,
Amy J. Bovin
President
