We want to recognize that the past few weeks have been a difficult time for our music education community. We also want to acknowledge and apologize for the pain that CMEA’s actions have caused. We made a mistake.
Part of CMEA’s mission is to unify music educators across the state so that we can promote better opportunities and more access to music for our students. The recent actions of the CMEA leadership detracted from that mission.
CMEA president, Jason Bouchard has resigned his position. Following a comprehensive review, other changes to the organization will be forthcoming.
We are listening and we are learning. Our community needs to be inclusive of more voices and different voices. We need to commit, as an organization, to making music education open and available to all and to understand that music, like the other arts, is a powerful way to inspire change.
